For his 40th birthday Freddie threw a party at Garden Lodge on Sunday 7th September 1986.
He decided he would throw a big “Mad Hatter” party, and sent out over 200 invitations.
For the whole week before the party, the sky remained clouded, Freddie wanted his guests to be able to enjoy every corner of the house and garden, so they prayed intensely that the weather would be fine that day.
The days leading up to the party were spent storing supplies and decorating Garden Lodge flowers from top to bottom.
On Sunday morning, the clear blue sky promised sunshine for the whole day.
The party started in the afternoon. Each guest showed up wearing a hat.
For Freddie Diana Moseley had prepared many, signed by different designers, and chose a kind of helmet with two antennas of metal springs.
The party continued well into the night.
